Q:
I have seen pictures of your dogs and they are stunning! My
friend and I are looking into importing a GSP from Australia, but
we would like to know what kind of hunting is done with them
there?
A:
GSP's in Australia are the same here as most parts of the world
they are worked. What they hunt is up to the "Hunter".. Quail,
Duck, Pigeon, Pheasant...Rabbit, Wallaby (Smaller Kangaroo)
Kangaroo, Some are worked on Deer.. Some even work them on Boar
(not that any of my pups would be allowed to go to one of those
homes ..bit dangerous for them) just as they are bred to be....
They are the All Rounder. It is up to the hunter/owner to train
their dog on what they want to hunt on any particular day... They
find .. they hold point...They back.. they flush.. and they
retrieve. In thick scrub.. to open fields.... in or out of
water... There are also a couple of GSP's in Tasmania who
have been taught to find Truffles. These are the main game. If you
need to know more just let me know.
Cheers Maree
